    Hello Ryan/Mel,

Great site! Now back in UK after 2050 mile run from Marrakesh to Burnley. Hope the rest of your trip is as good as our 19 days together in Morocco.

Try and avoid crossing to Spain from Cueta on Friday as it was chaos due to returning workers to Spain for weekend.

  • From Chris on Week 14 - Azrou to gorges du Todra Morocco

We did a month trip on our own to Morocco 5 years ago and went to Mazouga – did you stay at Nomad Palace with Ali? The comment about Berber tents suggest you might have done. We had a brilliant time there, the only van and we ate with Ali and family in the building. We went round the other way and came to Mezouga from Todra Gorge – it was a superb trip and we would love to return but are not sure about an organised trip – we had no problems throughout the whole month and we are not so comfortable with orgaised trips, will keep reading your blog. Enjoy

I’ve bookmarked your site for the future. You’re doing exactly what I want to do, but I’m just starting out with a campervan. I’m taking it easy for now but will start with a tour of the UK to ease me into living in a camper. I’m keeping a blog of everything that I do with my camper and update whenever I travel.

Keep up the good work, happy travels!

  • From Jacqui and Dave Cook on Superb day here!

Hi Ryan and Mel, Great blog, very informative! We bought a motorhome after hiring and taking a 10 day trip to Scotland in 2009. By August the same year we had made our purchase. March 2010 the house was with a letting agent and we began our 6 month Europen Vacation! We loved every minute of it. Our first port of call was the ‘french alps’ to visit our younger daughter Sophie who was completing her third season as a chalet host, 2010 she was in Tignes le Lac. We had visited Sophie in Tignes les Brevieres in 2009 and dave had spotted motorhomes in the car park. From Tignes les Brev we proceeded to Valloire and stayed on the St Thecle campsite for approximately 5 days or so. From Valloire we went on to Vaujany, Alpe d’huez and finally Montgenevre spending around 5 weeks in the alps. From there we made our way down to Sisteron, Provence, Menton and then into Italy visiting Cinque Terra and Tuscany then up to Lake Garda and Como to meet our eldest daughter and boyfriend. Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and Switzerland were next before we returned to France in August and then back to UK at the end of the month. We are now ready for our next trip which is a month in the French Alps so Dave can satisfy his passion for snowboarding and I can enjoy the scenery and maybe ski a little too. We may be back to Valloire in March so maybe we will see you there. Enjoy your trip and keep up with the blogging!!! Jacqui and Dave

  • From Roland on Tip: Winterising a Panel Van Campervan

Thanks for an interesting post. I don’t think that many UK converters consider serious winter use when designing motoromes so it is interesting to see how you have managed/adapted.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, I think that the “snow tyres” you are using are actually ‘winter tyres’. These are required by law in a number of parts of Europe during winter months (e.g. Austria and implicitly in Germany, where you will be at fault in an accident if found to be using tyres that are unsuitable for the conditions).

I believe that snow tyres are rather more extreme and are typically used in northern Scandinavia and other places where snow/ice is permanent throughout the winter.

    Cheers, Roland

You may well be right – my tyres are VancoWinter 2 – http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/uk/en/continental/automobile/themes/van-tyres/winter-tyres/vancowinter-2/vancowinter-2,tabNr=2.html – which are winter tyres, but also marked with Snowflake, Mountain, and M+S – so winter tyres but also suitable for snowy condtions. They are not full studded snow tyres.

Hi,Thanks for your prompt reply! We also use the Belgian motorways down to Luxembourg, mainly because they are toll free and much the cheaper fuel in Luxembourg, time is not that important as we are retired and make it up as we go.We don’t go near Brussells, got stuck once before! The route we use is Lille A7 south of Brussells;A7-A4 Namur then swing south to Luxembourg down A4 to an aires at Dudelange which last year had water and disposal facilities working well!Have used the aires in Metz by the river,no facilities just parking, but very handy.
Where do you park in Orelle,we love The three(nee four)valleys skiing, but do find it very busy but like the distances you can cover in a day eg Orelle to La Tania is a great journey. Now we tend to head for the smaller French resorts that are not in the brochures.
    Regards,
    Alan.

  • From Ryan and Mel on Snowboarding Week 1 diary...

    Hi

Valloire is quite a small resort but there is parking available – there is a road next to the river near the campsite where I’ve seen other vans. There are also about half a dozen “fixed wild campers” there! There is also an aire for fresh water but waste would be iffy and can’t see toilet waste. No drive over waste either as all frozen.

You can ask at the site but I’d say just stay one night and you get hookup and full facilities for €21 a night which isn’t bad.

We were going to do what you do – as in move between resorts – but the season ski pass (in advance) was so cheap it made sense to stay here for 5-6 weeks, then we’ll move to Orelle and another resort in Itally where we’ve got some free passes (3 days free with our Valloire season pass). Advanced pass was €199!!!! Bargain.

Any more questions do ask – it is actually a rather good place to be!

    R&M

Hi Guys,Really like your website, great to get up to the minute reports on road and snow conditions.Looks like you are having a great time!!We hope to be in your area in early January,we usually stay in a resort for a few days then move to another;is it possible to overnight at the main lift or in the town?Does your campsite allow non residents to fill and empty tanks for a small charge, most seem to.Sorry about the questions!!!Anyway, keep enjoying yourselves and try not to worry TOO much about us in the UK!!

    Kind regards,
