Hi guys, we are currently following (literally) in your footsteps a little over a year later. We stumbled across your website and not only has it proved useful but something we can relate too.
Hi
loaded the Municipal sites ov2’s to my tomtom on iphone and there doesn’t seem to be any ov2 info. The BMP’s show up on the map but no info.
Thanks for all you efforts…
Chris
Hi, the campsite at Valloire looks good. We recently staying in Le Grand Bornand in our VW campervan and loved it. Does the campsite at Valloire have a ski boot warm room where you can store them overnight safely ?
Great tips thanks, haven’t been abroad yet skiing with the van but plan to soon and hints and tips from someone who’s done it are always welcome, even though most are obvious easily forgotten .
Best wishes
Gareth
Hi Ryan and Mel,
Like the house and garden, our daughter lives at Market Lavington. We are spending New Year at the CCC site at Marlborough, with Gail and Richard.
We traded in the Excel that we had on the Morocco trip for an Autotrail Tracker, a little bigger and more payload. We had a week in Suffolk short of time otherwise we would have called on Colin and Jenny.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your articles and lists. Thanks so much for a fully informative piece on the insulation of your van. I am currently insulating my vw transporter so that it can go to the French Alps this winter and be living accomodation. I’m in need of all the useful advice I can get! Debzbee

Hi Ryan and Mel
Just came across your site a bit by accident as I was investigating camper vans! Hope you are both well – the site is great.
Cheers
Alan
PS – haven’t quite gotten out of the rat race yet, but we do now have a house in France between Nantes & Poitiers, so that’s our project!
Hi, many thanks for your post. I need some advice as I am starting to convert a van in to a camper. I was told I need an inverter, however your post has cast some doubt in my head. I have the main battery and two 100AH leisure batteries. I have a travel kettle for that time the missus needs a brew 🙂 plus I was planning to fit a 19 inch LCD that I bought from Tesco along with a microwave (700W). I have a smev sink and hob combi unit. however since this is my first attempt at a motorhome I have been seeking advice from people who have built and have lots of experience. any advice that you could share with me would be appreciated.
Regards
Ally
Hello,
Thanks for the file on CC CL’s but might I advise that having used quite a number of the places, I have found that everyone so far was not in the location that the co-ordinates advised.
One location was at the entrance to a footpath which I don’t think our outfit was narrow enough to go down, even though the actual CL was over a mile away!
While all the ‘anomalies’ have been fed back to the CC over the time we have been using them, I have yet to see a correction appearing in the Sites Directory.
I now use Google Earth in combination with the co-ordinates to ensure I am going to the correct place. Trying to turn around in some of the places we have been led to is not for the faint hearted or a scratch free outfit!
Your .gpx files wont load into MapSource, probably as they were produced from MapPoint/AutoRoute. This is normal for .gpx files produced by MapPoint 2011.
However they will load into Tyre and when then saved in the Garmin .gpx format, will load into MapSource. But it includes all wpts in a route, so just delete the route.

You’re site’s helped me a lot – I feel I owe you one (or two)
So ……
We’ve got a freebie pitch for weary travellers if your searching in the Tintern or lower Wye-Valley area.
email or phone (no on the website)……
You have so much information that this 69 year old guy gets head aches. Iv’e seen comments about Tommy having such large maps that it won’t even fit on the internal memory of 2Gb with no external slot for add on. Don’t understand if the GPS is plugged into the laptop USB and if so what does it do with the AutoRoute 2011 which we now have on our laptop.
Hi
40w is too small. Better to get a bigger one that is used less as, say, 50W on a 100W unit is more efficient at 50% output than 50W on a 60W unit. The smaller unit gets hotter.
Unless you have a netbook only, I’d suggest the 120W one they do with all the attachments. Stays cold. I use it for netbook, Asus laptop and a Dell XPS – just swap the attachment. (All 19v, just different current – the Dell XPS takes 10A (120W!) but the others keep it at 50% power. I have http://www.maplin.co.uk/120w-laptop-car-adaptor-44736 – I tried other smaller ones and they blew up – one almost took out a laptop as when it blew up it shorted the laptop out.
Also on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0012XZUOA/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=doyodr-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B0012XZUOA – but cheaper at Maplin once you take postage into account.
Regards
Ryan

My favourite city in Thailand, much more chilled than most and without the seedy side found in the coastal resorts. The riverside restaurants provide superb food in a fantastic setting at very reasonable prices.
Hi you two. Glad you’re back and had a good trip. I enjoyed reading your summary and some of your thoughts on the countries.
We’re looking for a long range WiFi aerial for our next trip. The one you suggest on your site doesn’t seem to work with OSx 4 according to one of the reader’s comments and Pete has recently acquired an iPad2 which he has upgraded to OSx4.something.
Have you any idea what might work with it?
If you are househunting near us, do pop in for a cup of tea. We’ll be around next week.
Surfing web for europe rv travel bolgs and found your blog. Thanks for the info and insite. Wife and I are rving for 40 days (sept/oct) germany, france, low countries, and italy. Could you be more specific on how you did it for so cheap.
