• From FON FAQ & GPS POIs - MotorhomeFun on BT FON FAQs & GPS POIs

[…] FON FAQ & GPS POIs Hi all With quite a few questions on BT FON on the forums, I've written a quick FAQ guide on our website, and also included some Autoroute POIs for France, Italy and Spain (I may add others if there is demand – just contact me). There is also links for raw data for all the other countries. This data is up to date. We've found FON to be very useful indeed in the UK using the zillions of BT hotspots, but abroad there are less hence the GPS maps are useful. (We tend to save all emails and just do a drive-past and send when near a spot ) Hope this is useful to someone. Link : http://www.doyourdream.co.uk/2011/07…faqs-gps-pois/ […]

  • From Brian Plummer on Engine problem: Lack of power, stalling etc

I disabled the EGR on my 1994 Duetto Camper van, based on the Ford Transit 2.5 Di (Non-Turbo). It doesnโ€™t have an ECU to electronically control the EGR, it is purely mechanical. I took a different approach, and removed the throttle linkage rod leading to the air valve, and fixed the air valve in the fully open position using a Jubilee clip. This prevents a vacuum being created and thus prevents the EGR valve from opening. This method has the advantage of permanently removing the air flow restriction, allowing more fresh air into the engine. Also, the throttle is lighter, because it doesnโ€™t have the mechanical linkage to the air valve.
This solution works because I don’t now get a plume of black smoke from the exhaust. I am hoping it will improve the fuel consumption from the 28 mpg I was getting, but I haven’t got a measure for this yet.

    • From Ryan and Mel on Engine problem: Lack of power, stalling etc

Great! Hope this page gave a tip. The tranny doesn’t have the same mechanical linkage but hopefully any Duetto owners will see your post and be okay. We’ve not had any MPG increase ๐Ÿ™ Maybe even a SLIGHT (0.5mpg) decrease? Maybe because the ECU puts more fuel in on run-off/idle as the air is purer and the O2 sensor says so? Just a guess. But no smoke and no problem, and no gunk in engine. Hope yours is okay after!

    Hello guys,
After being on the road for now since March 3rd, I have finally found what I have been looking for. A very informative guide to driving around Europe. Cannot believe it has take nme this long to find your site. I am really greatful for the GPS listings as this is just what we have been looking for. Sometimes it can be stressful staying in P+R’s and wild areas as you are not really sure what is going to happen. We have had the police with search lights looking through our van before (as we are not your average looking camper, but luckily its only been the police).
Have bookmarked your site so I can keep reading as we will be getting to Italy soon and then travelling the coast (southwest) around and back up to Calais and then back to the UK. ETA : Unknown ๐Ÿ™‚

Sounds like you had a great time, very similar to our experience when we went in 2009 on our own. We had bad weather until we crossed the Atlas Mountains, then the weather was a lot warmer.
I got a terrible chest infection and had a cold the whole time I was in Morocco.
Love the sahara, Chefchouan, andEssoira, Marakesh was enough for two days too.
We also like the Todra and Dades Gorges.

We did a month trip on our own to Morocco 5 years ago and went to Mazouga – did you stay at Nomad Palace with Ali? The comment about Berber tents suggest you might have done. We had a brilliant time there, the only van and we ate with Ali and family in the building. We went round the other way and came to Mezouga from Todra Gorge – it was a superb trip and we would love to return but are not sure about an organised trip – we had no problems throughout the whole month and we are not so comfortable with orgaised trips, will keep reading your blog. Enjoy
